How a Jewish boy was saved by his nanny

A gripping, true story of love, family and survival

Five-year-old Jewish Stefan has only one chance to survive World War II. Just before they are in danger of being deported to extermination camps, his parents send him away with his Catholic nanny, Zosia. Together they flee to the Polish countryside. Zosia takes care of little Stefan, who is given the task of being as undetectable as possible. Not to look at anyone, not to speak to anyone. For years, Stefan and Zosia wander through Poland. When they return in February 1945, the rubble of war is cleared away. But the war has a lasting aftermath. Stefan grows up, studies and obtains a doctorate in a country where anti-Semitism prevails until well after the war. By the time the war is decades past, Polish Jews are prevented from living in their homeland. Stefan decides to flee again. This time for good.
