A touching story about family, friendship and loss
Sam is nine years old and lives with his grandpa four days a week and with his mother three days a week. He has never met his father. Sam loves being with his grandpa, who was a truck driver and sailor in the past and who always tells great stories. When Sam asks if everything his grandpa tells him really happened, grandpa replies: ‘Distinguishing between fact and fiction is for boring people’. But Sammy wants to know the answer to some questions: What happens to you when you’re dead? How do we know what color dinosaurs were? Where does the wind start? And will Grandpa get better when he ends up in the hospital? A touching story about what it’s like to lose your grandpa and best friend.
Praise:
‘The more you read in Sammy and Grandpa, the more you want to keep reading. In doing so, Enne Koens makes you both forget about the great writers who in the past created wonderful grandfathers (…) as much as reminding you of them. The grandpa you wish every child had.’ – From the jury report of the Flag & Pennant Award
‘Enne Koens makes you forget about the great masters of literature.’ – de Volkskrant
